Coaching philosophy
We deserve to be free.
Each of us deserves to be free. We deserve to live life as our full, authentic selves, according to our deepest intentions, and to share our unique gifts with our communities and the world. But life is hard, and so much of the time we feel stuck, trapped, and constrained — by the circumstances of our lives, by how we learned we’re “supposed to be,” and by the inner demons we have carried with us for years.
Liberation is possible.
Yet liberation is possible. Coming to know our true selves is an essential step on that journey. From our authentic selves, we can begin to heal our wounded parts and take action to show up powerfully in the world.
Embark on the journey to yourself, and step into powerful action.
As a coach, I can be a partner on your journey to yourself, helping to accept and appreciate where you are and to get curious about the nature of your current realities and what you most need.
What is really going on when you’re avoiding or unable to complete work that is actually important to you?
What parts of you are clamoring for attention and won’t stop sounding alarms until they are heard and attended to?
How can you ground in your essential self in order to live your life in alignment with your deepest intentions?
How can you, gently, compassionately, and with ease, start to shift out of patterns that no longer serve you?
How can you start to take the small but revolutionary steps toward your purpose and vision for your life?
About me
I’m Charlotte Chang (she/her), and I am certified life coach.
I became a life coach after a lot of life happened during a 14-year period. Eight years of infertility, several failed adoption attempts, both my parents being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, my long caregiving journey with them, and their deaths in 2018 and 2022. Also during that time, the pandemic prompted me to leave the paid workforce to care for our 4-year-old and my dad whose health was rapidly declining. Our child’s diagnosis with autism and ADHD was another seismic shift that painfully illuminated for me how entrenched ableism is everywhere, including in myself and my parenting.
All the ways I had developed to cope came tumbling down during those years — chronic rule-following, external standard measuring, and studious ignoring of my own instincts and intuition. It led to deep questioning and to seek a different way.
…
Today, I am honored in my coaching work to witness the incredible human capacity for insight, growth, and liberation that happens when people get back to who they really are.
I’m second-generation Chinese-American and have partnered mostly with BIPOC clients working to make the world a better place. I am also very interested in supporting parents of neurodivergent folks, people doing family caregiving, those experiencing long-term infertility, and those whose families were grown through adoption — all areas of life very dear to my heart.
Before becoming a coach, I worked in public health for almost two decades, focused on community-based participatory research and partnership approaches in worker health and safety. I have my Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees. I was certified as a coach through the Martha Beck Wayfinder Life Coach Training Program.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband, child, and dog.
